There is a simple theory behind a good business, treat your customers well and they will keep coming back. At Owens Cycle that philosophy has been their foundation and it has made for a great business model.

“This is [Dean Owens] passion,” said Duane Worrell, general manager.

The business began as a small shop with a few employees more than three decades ago when Owens was 19 years old. With business picking up the business expanded to a 6,500 square foot location. In 2006, Owens Cycle decided to go even bigger, more than 600 percent, to a 40,000 plus square foot building.

Worrell said the reason the business expanded so much over the years is because they have excellent customer service and treat employees well.

“We’ve got a good crew, we take care of these families,” he said.

On the business side, Worrell said Owens Cycle employees are very knowledgeable and don’t just push bike sales on people. Instead, they ask questions and “fit the ticket,” something customers appreciate because they get exactly what they want.

“We’ve got an awesome repeat business, it’s huge,” Worrell said. “We love our customers.”

For Owens Cycle months right now are the slowest, beginning in October and running through January. This is because people aren’t out riding their motorcycles as much in the cold weather. However, Owens Cycle doesn’t just offer motorcycles, they have ATVs and snowmobiles to keep people coming in year around.

Once the warm weather begins to come around the corner, Worrell said business picks up, especially in March when the official riding season begins.

Owens Cycle participates in many events across the valley throughout the year including their Hogs-N-Dogs event, Toy Runs, SunDome events, and events associated with the Yakima Hog Group.

Owens Cycle has approximately 23-25 employees. They are located at1707 North First Street. Their hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. They are closed on Sunday.
