Daffodil Days seeks volunteers

  • 10-9-2009

The golden daffodil has long been known not only as the first flower of spring, but also the flower of hope. That is why it was chosen by the American Cancer Society to highlight its spring fundraiser: Daffodil Days.

Dollars raised by the sale of the bouquets of brilliant yellow daffodils are used by the Society to continue its funding of cancer research, its legislative advocacy, and its many educational and patient service programs.

Volunteers will take pre-orders in the month of February with bouquets arriving in March to greet the spring. All flowers are grown, cut and delivered fresh from the daffodil fields of western Washington.

While the bouquets of daffodils are the stars of the show, the true heroes are the men, women and teens who generously volunteer their time and efforts to collect donations in their communities.  Presently, Sue Jordahl, Volunteer Services Manager for the American Cancer Society, is recruiting volunteers to act as coordinators in Yakima County.

“By the first of the year, we are looking to have one coordinator in place in each business, neighborhood and school in the county,” says Jordahl.

Again this year, the American Cancer Society will also be offering collectable Boyd’s teddy bears.
