As part of the KOMO Problem Solvers Food Drive in the Puget Sound with Northwest Harvest and Food Lifeline, the Washington State Mexican Fruit Growers Coalition recently donated over 20 tons of fresh organic Yakima Valley apples.
The donation of 46,000 pounds of apples took place at Fred Meyer in Issaquah Nov. 18
During the donation, coalition chair Joe Cervantes said, “More and more people are struggling to feed their families and it is especially difficult for many people to find extra money in their budgets to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.
“I and the other members of our fruit growers coalition wanted to do something special during the holiday season to help provide fresh organic apples to the food banks in the Puget Sound.”
The coalition also plans make a large apple donation to Northwest Harvest in Yakima to help food banks in Central Washington.
