Prosser Wine and Food Fair seeks volunteers

  • 8-16-2010

The Prosser Wine and Food Fair is just around the corner, and organizers could use a hand from local volunteers who want to help make the fair a success again this year.

Fair board chair Susan Webber said committee chairs for gate/tickets and retail wine sales are needed, as well as volunteers for a variety of activities on the day of the event.

“It’s an enjoyable way to contribute to an event that is such an important part of our community,” Webber said.

The Wine and Food Fair each year returns part of the event proceeds to the community, and over the years has donated more than $150,000 to worthwhile local organizations.

Those wishing to be involved in the event are encouraged to call 786-4545.

The premier Northwest summer wine and food event will be held this year Aug. 14, from 2 to 8 p.m.

It will take place on the campus of the Washington State University Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center.

Webber said this year only 2,500 tickets will be available for the Fair, and encouraged those interested in attending to purchase their tickets early.

She said 36 wineries, two breweries, and 13 food vendors will participate in this year’s event, which will also feature live entertainment from Tri-Cities bands Highland Drive and IV throughout the day.

Prosser Wine and Food Fair posters are also available. The colorful poster art was created by Gail Roadhouse of West Richland.

The posters are printed on heavy paper stock that make them suitable for framing, and can be purchased at the Prosser Chamber of Commerce office for $10 unsigned and $15 signed.

This is the 29th year of the Fair, and the second year it has been held at the IAREC campus, which is on North Bunn Road, a few miles northeast of Prosser.

Directions to the facility and scenes from the 191-acre campus can be found at www.prosser.wsu.edu.

Tickets for the Fair are still on sale, and are $20 per person in advance and $25 at the gate, if the event is not sold out. Tickets can be purchased online at www.tourprosser.com.

Only those 21 or older are allowed on the grounds the day of the event, and this applies to infants. No pets are allowed.

Additional information and advance tickets are available by contacting the Prosser Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-408-1517 or 509-786-4545.
