The Selah School District Board of Directors approved a resolution at last night’s Board Meeting to place
a bond proposal on the April 26, 2011, special election ballot.
The April 26 bond request is identical to the
$39.95 million proposal the District placed before residents in February.
“Junior High School was built in 1957 and needs to be replaced [in addition to many other upgrades],” Superindentent Steve Chestnut.
Beginning in 2014, the entire $1.98 will be paid on the new bonds.
If the new facility bond
passes, the District has structured the repayment so the total cost of bonds to taxpayers will be $1.98 in
2012, $1.98 in 2013, $1.98 in 2014, and so on, continuing at the rate until the new bonds are paid off in
2033.If the bond is approved, and once the new projects are complete, the District will change grade
configuration:
John Campbell Elementary will include grades K-2, students in grades 3-5 will attend Selah
Intermediate School, students in grades 6-8 will attend the new junior high, and students in grades 9-12 will
attend Selah High School.
“The Selah School Board is committed to long-term educational excellence for Selah students,” said
Chestnut.
