The Fair is in the Air
From last year’s “Get Happy” to “PolyWowz’n’foodle” and “Do The Wacky Yakky”, over the years the Central Washington State Fair has had a number of memorable themes. For the 2011 version of the annual event, Fair organizers are bringing back one of their all-time favorite themes—“The Fair Is In The Air!”
As the theme for the 1984 and 1985 Fairs, “The Fair Is In The Air” utilized a catchy jingle in TV and radio commercials that many people to this day can still sing.
“Our research shows that ‘The Fair Is In The Air’ is one of the most popular themes we have ever had,” said Fair president and general manager Greg Stewart.
“So we thought we would bring it back, update the jingle and have some fun with it,” he added.
Other popular themes from year’s past include “Oh What a Fair”, “Go Fair Crazy”, “Who Let the Hogs Out” and “Fair-N-Dipity” among others.
“Part of our promotion of the Fair and theme this year will be to have local musicians take ‘The Fair Is In The Air’ jingle and put their own twist on it,” Stewart said.
“We want to hear it with a country flair, as a hip-hop song, gospel or whatever. We want to make it into a contest, maybe on YouTube and we’ll give some prizes. We think everyone will have fun with it.”
Stewart said he and the staff are working hard to bring together this year’s version of the annual Fair, which is set to start on September 23 and run through October 2.
“We are working on getting our entertainment and attractions in place,” Stewart said.
“We already have a bigger petting zoo and a super new reptile exhibit signed up. And we have a mega exhibit coming in based on the history of Rock and Roll.”
Of course the Fair will again present several nights of big name entertainment, along with a variety of great foods, livestock exhibits, carnival rides, and displays that makes it the largest single family entertainment event in the region.
